Accessibility Statement

We at Ann-Education place great importance on making the learning experience accessible to all learners, including people with disabilities, so that everyone can watch a course, answer, and progress independently, with dignity and ease. This statement covers the Katie system in all its parts: the course-creation tool, the course editor, and the learner player.

Partial conformance

The system conforms in large part to the standard, with a few known gaps listed below that are being completed. Formal classification: partial conformance.

  • Israeli Standard 5568 Part 1 (Ministry of Education)The whole system: course-creation tool, course editor, and learner player
  • Israeli Standard 5568 Part 2 (digital documents)Not applicable: the service does not deliver office documents
  • WCAG 2.1 Level AAThe whole system: course-creation tool, course editor, and learner player

Level of accessibility

The system was built to meet Israeli Standard 5568 Part 1 and the Equal Rights for Persons with Disabilities Regulations (Service Accessibility Adjustments), 2013, which apply to all three parts of the system: the course-creation tool, the course editor, and the learner player. All three parts were additionally built and verified to the stricter WCAG 2.1 Level AA bar, which incorporates the standard's WCAG 2.0 baseline and goes beyond it. We reviewed all 20 Level AA success criteria across the whole system: most are fully implemented, and a few are still being completed or awaiting final verification (see Known gaps).

How it was made accessible

Accessibility is built directly into the player code, with no external accessibility plugin or overlay. Adjustments already in place include:

  • Compliant colour contrast in the learner player
  • Full keyboard navigation with a visible focus indicator
  • A skip-to-content link and page titles
  • Semantic structure, heading hierarchy, and ARIA tags
  • Accessible names and roles for every control
  • Field labels and text error messages
  • Captions on videos, on by default
  • Reduced-motion mode
  • Support for text enlargement and screen orientation
  • Full support for Hebrew and right-to-left layout
  • Audio description for video, in a spoken listening mode
  • A real text description for every meaningful image; a decorative image is marked as such so a screen reader skips it

Browsers and technologies tested

Accessibility was tested in the current versions of Chrome, Safari, and Edge, in both light and dark display modes, and by automated accessibility checks that run on a regular schedule. A documented manual screen-reader pass is planned, and this page will be updated once it is complete.

Known gaps (WCAG 2.1 AA bar)

  • Under verificationImage alt text, captions, and audio descriptions are generated automatically and are editable by the course creator, but are not individually verified in every case. The system makes sure the content exists - not that it is accurate.
  • In progressIn the course editor, and for a learner on a tablet, the captions (CC) and audio-description (AD) buttons can still cover part of the video picture. On a learner's phone this is already fixed, and the buttons sit below the picture.

Embedded third-party content

Courses may include embedded external content whose accessibility is outside our control. If you run into content that is not accessible, contact the accessibility coordinator and we will provide it in an alternative form.

Scope of service

The Ministry of Education standard and the detailed WCAG 2.1 Level AA statement both apply to the whole system: the course-creation tool, the course editor, and the learner player. The service is intended for pre-registered users (a personal registration link or organized sign-in) and is a limited-participant service. One adjustment depends on the customer type: the larger minimum font size required for Ministry of Education sites (15 pixels) is applied in education-institution environments. For other customers the base font size is smaller, and it can be enlarged up to 200% across the whole system.
